Writer's picture: Albert CAlbert C

It’s hard to impress on a date in New York City. There are so many options from Broadway shows to exclusive rooftop bars. So how do you wow your chum without being completely cliché? Start by picking them up in a limo and saving them from the subway. Once you’re on your way, here are some eclectic NYC date ideas and places to visit that are inventive, unique, and sure to amaze your date.

The Mast Brothers Tour

This chocolatier tour grants exclusive access to the ethically sourced cocoa products with unusual flavors such as Stumptown Coffee and hazelnut chocolate. Each chocolate bar is wrapped in designs that are created in-house, featuring fun prints such as anchors, houndstooth, motorcycles, etc. But even if you’re not familiar with the brand and are simply a chocolate lover, these tours are a fascinating behind-the-scenes view into the craft of how beans become delectable bars. It’s a fun way to learn about chocolate and explore a new interest with your date.

Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum

Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum

Explore free art and entertainment on the first Saturday of every month from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. From multicultural music to modern dance, to Q&As, there is a lot of interesting exhibitions to move through and explore with your date. Plus, if you get hungry, their BKM Café offers salads, drinks, sweets, and artist-created sandwiches too. FYI: you’ll need a ticket to attend and the lines form approximately 30 minutes before tickets are released.

Graffiti Hall of Fame

Located on the Jackie Robinson School courtyard in East Harlem on the corner of East 106th Street and Park Avenue, this land of graffiti has been around since the 1980s, with the newest art being painted within the inside wall. The space was originally established to give graffiti artists a permanent home where they could express themselves in a safe environment. The actual schoolyard usually closes by 5 p.m., but you can still see the art from the sidewalks if need be. It’s a great place to walk around and admire creative artwork while chatting with your date.

Sail Around the City

There are several companies that offer relaxing tours of the Hudson River and New York Harbor. There’s no better feeling than being outside when the weather gets warm, and taking your beau on a boat is a great way to get away from the city for a bit and see it from a new perspective. It’s also like a mini getaway where you can really sit down and get to know each other while exploring the open water and soaking in the sunshine.

Greenacre Park

Advertised as a private park for public enjoyment, Greenacre Park is a little oasis of an urban park with a 25-foot waterfall, charming moveable tables and chairs, and a quaint café with smoothies and specialty lemonades. It’s a peaceful getaway from the city to escape and clear your head, or simply steal a few intimate kisses with your date.

Jazz Club

From Birdland to Blue Note, there are tons of amazing jazz clubs and jazz musicians within NYC. Sip some martinis or an old fashioned and take in the beautiful tones of the saxophone and improvisations of the piano. A jazz club is an excellent venue to talk quietly beneath the rhythm while not feeling completely pressured if the conversation wavers from time to time.

Stone Street

Originally known as Brewers Street and renamed for its cobblestone paving, this pedestrian-only historic district is home to several restaurants, bars, and outdoor dining establishments (when weather permits). Walking down this street evokes being in the back alleys of Italy. It’s an ideal romantic spot tucked away within the city, and is quiet enough to get to know your date, while also feeling like you’ve stepped away from the madness of the city.

Elevated Acre

Located at 55 Water Street, this hidden grassy area features a beautiful view of the East River. With a long walkway, tons of seating, and beautiful shrubbery, it’s the ideal place for a picnic or to soak up the sun when it gets nice. Or, if you’d prefer to walk, grab a coffee nearby and head over with your date to enjoy the views together.

The Secret Burger Joint at the Parker Meridien Hotel

Shhhh…it’s a secret! The not-really-that-secret burger joint (it’s rated on Yelp) is located in the Parker Meridien Hotel. It’s hailed as a secret since it’s not advertised and is only advertised by a neon cheeseburger sign with an arrow to denote its existence. Impress your date by leading them into this speakeasy burger joint. It’s sure to be a fun time as well as a delicious meal. (FYI: it's cash only.)

Want to really excite your date? Make the evening truly special by booking a ride with Luxor and avoiding the subway.
